Impact & accountability

1,002 children home. Here's how we got them there.

We publish our numbers, explain how we count them, and update them as children go home.

Year by year

Growth, without cutting corners

Reunifications grew from 21 in our first year to 350 in 2025, when the Goma center opened during an emergency intake of former child soldiers.

How we count: a child counts as reunified when they are formally returned to verified family members, with DIVAS (the state child-protection authority) involved. We don't count a reunification until it happens, and we report the year in which it happened.

Accountability

How we know it's working

Four checks keep our numbers honest and every child accounted for, from the day they arrive to long after they go home.

  • Monthly field reports

World Hope Givers reports every month on admissions, reunifications, health, schooling and spending.

  • Follow-up after return

At least two visits after a child goes home, including one at six months, to confirm they are safe and in school.

  • A dedicated MEAL officer

A Congolese monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning officer keeps case data and checks it against records.

  • Financial oversight

Our treasurer reviews every field transaction. In 2026, the University of Washington carried out a due-diligence review.
